Florida adds 10,000 MedMar Patients in the past few weeks

Albany -- Over the past few weeks Florida has added more than 10,000 patients to its medical marijuana registry  – this is a sure sign of the growth potential of the state’s market.

With the number of registered patients nearing 27,000, that represents an increase of more than 10,000 from June 7, when the registry was at 16,760 patients.

Under a law enacted in June, Florida will allow four additional business licenses when the patient count hits 100,000 and four more for each additional 100,000 patients.

The law also calls for the licensing of 10 additional vertically integrated MMJ businesses by October 2017, on top of the existing seven licensed business. Each license holder can operate 25 dispensaries.

There have been some challenges to the fact that the law doesn’t allow for smokable medical marijuana.  That prompted a lawsuit by a prominent Florida MMJ advocate.
